It's that time of year again... daylight savings is just around the corner, it's time to make sure household smoke alarms are in good working order. If you have a battery operated alarm, now is the time to replace the battery.

 Working smoke alarms save lives.

Smoke alarms have a limited life. The date of manufacture and/or replacement is displayed on the alarm. Replace each alarm after 10 years. Building regulations state that every home in Victoria must have a smoke alarm complying with Australian Standard AS3786. Only choose a smoke alarm that meets standard. CFA urges all householders to replace or supplement their existing ionisation smoke alarms with photo-electric alarms. Ensure you and your family have and practise a Home Fire Escape Plan.
