CFA attends more than 1000 house fires every year.

Common causes of house fire:

• Unattended cooking
• Faulty wiring
• Clothes dryers
• Heaters and electric blankets
• Candles and oil burners
• Smoking in bed

In your home, you are a fire warden.

• Keep a fire blanket and extinguisher in the kitchen
• Use the Home Fire Safety Checklist
• Teach children to be careful around fire
• Have a working smoke alarm
• Know how to get out of your house if there's a fire

Only working smoke alarms save lives

A person is 60 percent less likely to survive a house fire without a working smoke alarm.

We lose our sense of smell when we go to sleep. A smoke alarm is the only thing that will alert you if there is smoke from a fire.
